I ran across this guy doing research for my thesis on punk in LA and Yugoslavia. Sociologist Eric Gordy wrote an excellent book on Serbia in the late Yugoslav period, which has a whole chapter on musicians and their relationship to state power at that time (right before the war and during the war). Among other things, Gordy discussed Rambo Amadeus’ music and his connection to the Yugoslav genre of Turbo-folk (a coin Amadeus coined, and which quickly got away from him, and came to mean a certain nationalist kind of music). I was quite surprised to see him on such a mainstream musical forum (given most of the other entries are pop or some sort of Euro-techno kind of music). The song itself, Euro Neuro, seems a critique of the current Euro-crisis and the video (not the live one, but the official video), shows Amadeus riding around on a donkey. Good stuff!
