Forest officials on Sunday killed a leopard in self-defense after it injured 13 people in north eastern India's Assam state.

The wild cat entered a residential zone in Dibrugarh district of the province at around 6 a.m. and attacked one person. Forest officials reached the area and after a long struggle located the hiding animal and fired two shot of tranquilizers at the leopard.

A crowd of locals gathered at the spot to see the leopard - falling to sleep under the dose of tranquilizers, but the public noise alerted the wild cat who further attacked and injured 13 people including two forest officials.
