Forest officials on Sunday killed a leopard in self-defense after it injured 13 people in north eastern India’s Assam state.
The wild cat entered a residential zone in Dibrugarh district of the province at around 6 a.m. and attacked one person. Forest officials reached the area and after a long struggle located the hiding animal and fired two shot of tranquilizers at the leopard.
A crowd of locals gathered at the spot to see the leopard – falling to sleep under the dose of tranquilizers, but the public noise alerted the wild cat who further attacked and injured 13 people including two forest officials.

As the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall prepared to fly back to the UK tomorrow, the Queen was allowing herself to be guarded by stetson-wearing Canadian Mounties – including a handful of women officers.
It is only the second time the Mounties have been invited to replace the traditional Household Cavalry – the last time was in 1897, for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

It’s supposed to be a friendly game to raise money for charity but someone clearly forgot to tell Teddy Sheringham.
The former England footballer took the match so seriously that one of his particularly blistering tackles saw opposing team member Gordon Ramsay stretchered off the pitch.
Even after the tackle, which occurred just five minutes in to the game, Sheringham was oblivious to Ramsay’s injury – patting him on the back as the chef lay in agony on the grass.

World-famous TV chef Ramsay, who used to play for Glaswegian football club Rangers, had to be given oxygen on the pitch before he was taken off by medics after Sheringham tackled him from behind at the match, held at Manchester’s Old Trafford to raise funds for Unicef.
Following the tackle, Ramsay was taken to hospital for further treatment but was released later in the evening.
A spokesperson for Ramsay said: ‘Gordon was taken to hospital after injuring his back during the game. He was released after receiving treatment and although he’s in pain today, there shouldn’t be any long term damage.
However, despite Ramsay being fine after the injury, it didn’t stop internet jokers posting pictures of the chef’s altered Wikipedia page to include the line: ‘Gordom Ramsay was killed by Teddy Sheringham in Soccer Aid 2012.’
Ramsay wasn’t the only person to get hurt in the match, as Hollywood comedian Will Ferrell also had to leave the pitch early when he suffered a leg injury late in the second half.
But the Anchorman star did manage to hobble off the pitch himself following the injury.
Soccer Aid’s England versus the Rest of the World was organised by Take That’s Robbie Williams and has so far raised more than £4million for the children’s charity.
The Rest of the World team, which included a host of Hollywood stars including captain Michael Sheen, Ferrell, Gerard Butler, Mike Myers, James McAvoy and Edward Norton was managed by Kenny Dalglish with Ian Rush as his assistant.

A tattoo artist has invented a bizarre way to stay with his beloved iPod at all times — having surgery to implant magnets under his skin.
Footage showing New Jersey’s Dave Hurban, 21, surgically embedding the magnets into his left wrist to keep his 16GB iPod nano quite literally at arm’s length, has been doing the rounds on the Web.
Instead of wearing a wristband, four small powerful magnets under the body piecing expert’s skin helps the Apple device stay in place, just like a strapless watch.
Mr Hurban said that the technique used is actually a typical one in the world of body piercing and that the pain of the procedure was not as bad as he thought.
“Those magnets are actually called micro-dermal anchors, and in body piercing they are very common. The tops are actually just 5 millimetre magnetic tops,” he said.
“I took the ends of magnets and actually adhered them to the back of the iPod, and that’s how they click into my skin.”
He added: “I can go for a run and it won’t come off. I’ve already taken it to the gym and jogged with it on.”

To say Tao Porchon-Lynch is an extraordinary yoga teacher isn’t a stretch, considering she has fans all over the world.
But what makes her truly amazing is the fact that she can support her whole body on her hands — even though she’s 93.
Now she has another accolade to add to her list: Guinness World Records has just declared her the world’s oldest yoga teacher.
Porchon-Lynch started practicing yoga when she was eight after seeing some boys doing the exercises on the beach of her hometown of Pondicherry, a French colony in India on the Bay of Bengal.
“As a child with a zest for physical activity, I wanted to do the amazing things that they were doing with their bodies,” she told Guinness.
But Porchon-Lynch only started teaching 45 years ago after a show business career whose highlights include winning a “Best Legs in Europe” contest, working as a cabaret dancer in London during World War II and as a model in Paris, then moving to America to act in films like “The Last Time I Saw Paris” with Elizabeth Taylor.
At an age where some people start slowing down, Porchon-Lynch still has 400 students at the the Westchester Institute of Yoga in Westchester, N.Y., which she founded in 1982.
Porchon-Lynch replaces the former world’s oldest yoga teacher, Berniece Bates, who received that title last November.
However, at the time, she welcomes the chance to have someone else take the honor.
“Anyone that can beat the record is fine,” Bates said. “I’m sure there’s a 100-year-old guy in India who can probably beat me.”
But Porchon-Lynch isn’t the only older woman setting incredible records this month.
Guinness World Records has also declared a 77-year-old woman in Denver, Colo., the “Oldest Living Female Bodybuilder.”
Edith Wilma Connor started bodybuilding in her early-60s after deciding that the 10-hour days she was spending at her data-entry company were making her stagnant. What began as simple gym routine with her son turned into a serious pursuit of bodybuilding and she told MSNBC.com that her discovery of the sport was her “salvation.”
Connor entered her first competition on her 65th birthday and she won first place at the Grand Masters in Las Vegas. The victory motivated her to pursue a career as a certified personal trainer with emphasis on training the mature body.
Despite being 77, Connor works out a minimum of three times per week and does not strictly “diet” but prefers to follow nutritional guidelines that she’s developed over time for her body.
“Start with setting reasonable goals and educating yourself on what foods cause an increase in body fat,” she told Guinness. “Remove the word ‘diet’ from your vocabulary.”
In order to get the record, Connor beat out previous record holder Ernestine Shepherd, 75, of Maryland, who held the record for the oldest competitive female bodybuilder in the world in 2010 and 2011.

A grainy black and white video showing Kelly Thomas, a shirtless, homeless man, being hit again and again with fists, a baton and finally the butt of a stun gun by Fullerton, California police chilled spectators in an Orange County courtroom on Monday (May 7).
The closed circuit video of Thomas’ violent encounter with police outside a bus depot is the centerpiece of the prosecutions’ case against two officers accused of escalating a standard police encounter with a homeless man into a fatal beating. At one point, Thomas – a 37-year-old mentally ill homeless man who was a familiar face in the city’s downtown yells for help.
Thomas died five days after the beating on July 5, 2011. Monday’s screening of the video was part of a preliminary hearing in which a judge is set to decide if there is sufficient evidence for two policemen to stand trial for the incident. Officer Manuel Ramos, 38, a 10-year veteran on the Fullerton force, was charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in connection with Thomas’ death, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years to life in prison if found guilty. Corporal Jay Cicinelli, 40, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and use of excessive force. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
Prince Charles had a go at reading the weather during a tour of BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay headquarters.

Those Crazy Pikes are evading police while RACING on there horses in the middle of a busy highway while Garda police try and stop them.
At one point head on collisions were narrowly avoided when the pikeys watching the race bunched up around one racer to protect him from the police.
Most of the time, the horses and several of those cars were on the wrong side of the road, forcing oncoming traffic off the road, or almost going head on.
Disturbing images are circulating on the Internet, showing a man apparently being run over by a taxi cab in Montreal.
A 23-year-old man was rushed to hospital pre-dawn Sunday with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
A 47-year-old taxi driver and some of his clients were being investigated, police said, with the possibility of criminal charges being laid. The incident occurred in a lively downtown district, filled with night stops and restaurants.
Const. Yannick Ouimet said it appeared the taxi driver was having an argument with three clients when he told them to get out. Things quickly degenerated at that point, Ouimet said.
“People were actually kicking the vehicle, causing some (damage) on the vehicle.”
Images circulating on the Internet showed a taxi nearly hitting one man and then, moments later, rolling over him. Ouimet said police are aware of several videos circulating online and he said they are being used in the investigation.
“All those videos were looked at by investigators and should help them lay down accusations,” he said.

Extremely high winds in northern Spain tested the skills of pilots as they landed in extreme conditions that swayed planes and frightened passengers.
Video footage captured planes landing at Bilbao’s Loiu Airport in sweeping winds which forced some pilots to abort the landing process. The Basque country registered winds of over 81 miles per hour (130 kilometers) . The State Meteorological Agency said winds reached up to 40 miles per hour (65 kilometers) at Loiu Airport, the daily Diario Vasco reported. AENA, the airport authority said high winds had affected air travel resulting in four aircraft being re-routed to different airports. Bilbao’s airport, however, remained open throughout the bad weather. There were no cancellations but the conditions forced pilots to use their skills.

We have all been told that texting while walking down a street is risky and can lead to serious accidents. But not many have heeded the warnings. A California man learned the hard way. He walked into a 500lb black bear while texting on his phone.
A TV helicopter crew captured the incident. While the man is engrossed with texting on his phone, he unknowingly walked towards a giant black bear wandering around in the neighborhood. But just before he literally runs into the bear, he looks up and flees.
The Californian news station KTLA, had a chopper in the air filming the bear as it wandered La Crescenta in California. According to Ninemsn, the man later said he was texting his boss with an excuse why he would be late for work. He said: “I was texting my boss that I would be late for work because something is going on and I’m coming down the stairs and I see the bear coming up the stairs towards me. I turned back and I ran for my life.”
Los Angeles County Sherrif’s office and the Glendale Police Department had issued a lookout warning to residents of La Crescenta after they received a call saying a bear was sighted at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday in the 2800 block of Manhattan Avenue.
The bear was finally tracked to a back garden on Tuesday morning. According to sheriff’s Sgt. Slater, “We did locate about a 500, 600-pound bear in this immediate area. He’s been wandering through the residential area for the last several hours.” Slater said: “Department of Fish and Game is en route. They have ultimate responsibility over it. Our role right now is if the bear is docile and just hunkering down, we’ll let him continue that until Fish and Game gets here.”
Police have long been tracking the bear believed to have broken into a house and helped itself to frozen meatballs in a refrigerator last month.h

The video from the Epiros TV1 shows the disgruntled presenter cleaning his laptop as protesters keep pelting him with eggs and yoghurt.
Last week, Vourhas invited a spokesman from the openly neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party onto his show. Its members have been accused of carrying out acts of violence and hate crimes against illegal immigrants, political opponents and ethnic minorities in Greece.

A Navy jet crashed Friday into some apartments near Virginia Beach, Virginia, sending flames and thick black smoke into the air, a military spokesman and a witness said.
At least two people were hurt Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The pilot and a person who was on the ground were being treated for injuries, but the nature and extent of those injuries were not immediately clear, the spokeswoman said.
Two apartment buildings were on fire, citing witnesses.
The jet was from Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The crew of the two-seater F/A-18 safely ejected, but their condition wasn’t known, a Navy spokesman said.
The plane is from a training squadron, the Navy said.
George Pilkington, a witness to the crash, said he saw the plane flying low, with its nose up and tail down, ejecting fuel — which struck him as unusual. The engine was straining, he said.
“It came over the top of my truck emptying fuel,” Pilkington said.
“That it didn’t cause more damage to the apartment buildings was a blessing,” he said.
The plane crashed in an area of apartment complexes and homes a half-mile from the waterfront, Pilkington said.
Black smoke and flames rose from the crash site.
At least one building was damaged, according to video footage. A charred section of the jet wreckage was on the ground nearby.
Fire trucks, ambulances and police cars filled the area as smoke drifted overhead.
Another witness, Zack Zapatero, said the plane crashed into a building occupied by senior citizens. He took photographs of the crash scene.
“There’s these large fire balls coming up,” Zapatero said. “I was told there was a bunch of senior citizens that live in that building, which worries me a lot.
“Buildings were starting to collapse,” he said of the wreckage scene.
“Through the smoke, you could see the end of the plane sitting in the courtyard” of the building, Zapatero said.

DALLAS — Tornadoes tore through the Dallas area on Tuesday, tearing roofs off real estates, tossing trucks into the air and leaving flattened tractor trailers strewn along highways and parking lots. – April 2012
The National Weather Service confirmed at least two separate “large and extremely dangerous” tornadoes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Several other developing twisters were reported as a band of violent storms moved north through the metropolitan area. Officials had no immediate information about injuries.
Footage from highway video cameras showed a large, dark funnel cloud moving on the ground not far from a major interstate early Tuesday afternoon. Crumpled orange tractor trailers were later visible in a Dallas County parking lot, as well as flattened trailers along the sides of highways and access roads.
In Lancaster, south of Dallas, local television footage showed homes without roofs while other buildings were flattened. Plywood was strewn on the grass and on top of buildings. Residents could be seen walking down the street with firefighters and peering into homes, looking at the damage after the storm passed.
The storm pushed cars into fences and toppled trees. Branches and limbs were scattered across lawns and in the streets. A tow-behind RV was torn apart and crumpled in a driveway where part of a roof of the home was torn off.
“Obviously we’re going to have a lot of assessments to make when this is done,” Dallas County spokeswoman Maria Arita told The Associated Press.
Dallas law enforcement spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey said an apparent twister also touched down and caused damage within the city’s southern limits, though the extent was not immediately known.
DFW Airport spokesman David Magana told WFAA-TV that airport employees pulled passengers away from glass windows and into inside areas of the airport as the storms and twisters moved through.

Rocket sleds are often too expensive for small programs to utilize for extensive test series. And in addition to challenging packaging issues, traditional guns present a violent acceleration profile that can damage test hardware. The designer of VERA endeavored to create a cost effective system to deliver useful payloads to useful velocities while subjecting payloads to acceleration forces significantly lower than those associated with typical gun systems. The result of this effort is VERA.
VERA is a low cost, low acceleration, compressed charge combustion gun featuring a 40 foot (12.2 m) barrel and a 19 inch (483 mm) bore. VERA was designed to minimize payload acceleration forces, accommodate large and/or oddly shaped projectiles, and allow for in-barrel instrumentation and control of energetic or inert payloads.
And yes, VERA, can best be described as a “potato gun on steroids.” Quite probably the world’s largest and most powerful, but no research to back up such a claim has been made. This could become part of the military’s future weapons, a super weapon if can call it that.

Zumba dance fitness fanatics in Mexico City have set a new world record with their more than 6,500-person class.
The record was broken in Mexico City’s famous Zócalo Square by a predominantly female crowd of 6,633 as Guinness World Records officials looked on, according to a video report by the International Business Times. The record breaking-class was held for almost an hour on the International Day of Physical Activity, with the idea of getting people active, outdoors and having some fun.
Another attempt was made to break the zumba record this February when two Dorset, England, charities took a shot at beating the original record of 2,012 people set by Zumba Fitness in London, but only 600 people showed up to participate. And it wasn’t their first time. The English charities tried to break the record last October as well, but only managed to gather 750 dancers.
He may only be eight years old but Indonesian Adi Ilham has grabbed the world’s attention with his 25-a-day smoking habit.
The youngster, from Sukabumi, has dropped out of school because they have stopped him from smoking and, according to his parents, he becomes violent when they try to make him quit.

Dramatic new video gives a rare, up-close view of an American military attack chopper the AH-64 apache apparently losing control and crashing hard at a remote, mountainous outpost in Afghanistan.
The video, which appeared online recently, shows an Apache helicopter coming into view before swooping down low over the coalition outpost.
The person shooting the video, who has not been identified, shouts in apparent fear as the helicopter narrowly misses a building and then chuckles in relief after it pulls back up. But after coming back around, the chopper drops down low again and slams its belly onto the snowy ground just feet from the camera.
The helicopter skids towards another group of people, but comes off the ground briefly before crashing again in the distance.
A spokesperson for the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force mentioned the video was taken Feb. 6 in the Paktika province in Afghanistan. Remarkably, no one on the ground was injured and the aircrew survived, the spokesperson said.
There was no enemy activity in the area and Army is currently investigating the incident, he said.
While the cause of the crash is unknown, former Marine Corps pilot said it appears the pilot was performing dangerous low-level maneuvers for spectators and then lost control.
Human Birdwings” creator Jarno Smeets and his Android-powered, mechanically-assisted flying machine are creating a stir again. The video was seen when Smeets posted a video of his first test flight, in which he appeared to hang in the air a few feet off the ground for a second or two. In the video of his latest attempt, he’s shown soaring around in the air, and a lively debate over the validity of the video is already heating up.
“I find it improbable that he could generate enough power to provide the air speed needed to gain lift. I don’t see a combustion engine so it would be simply down to batteries and electric motors assisted by his arm flapping. His arm flapping would be vastly less powerful than leg peddling and I’m not sure there are too many cycle powered flying machines. That would mean almost all the power would come from some little electric servo motors. That seems improbable to say the least.”
The former Kate Middleton smashed home a goal Thursday as she played a bit of field hockey while visiting the British Olympic women’s team at Olympic Park. The Duchess of Cambridge, who captained the hockey team at her high school, Marlborough College, took the field in a morale-boosting mission ahead of the July 27-Aug. 12 London games.
Admitting it’s been a while since she had taken a stick in hand, she tried to suggest that no one should watch. That notion was ignored.
“I was really looking forward to coming here, but now I am here and have discovered I have to play, I am not feeling so confident,” she said.
The glamorous Kate arrived at Olympic Park in heels but quickly donned a gray “Team GB” (Great Britain) sweatshirt over coral-colored jeans. She expressed some concern that her skinny jeans would clash with the bright blue pitch, but gamely grabbed a stick and took a few shots.
“This is going to be so embarrassing,” she said. “My brain thinks I can do all these wonderful things but my body just doesn’t play ball.”

“She told me that she missed playing as part of a team,” Walsh said. “She also told me that she used to hit the penalty corners and you could see that. She got low and her shots were really sweet.”
Kate, 30, had specifically asked to meet with the hockey team as part of her role as an Olympic ambassador. Together with Princes William and Harry, she will make an effort to see and be seen at the London Olympics and to cheer the home side on.
