  • ‘Obscene’ Portrait of South African President Vandalized

    Guido Permalink
    8:14 am on 06/06/2012 |

A portrait of South African President Jacob Zuma, like the famous Lenin portrait, but with his genitals exposed, was vandalized by supporters. Zuma and his party were trying to get the picture removed because it’s ‘disrespectful’. Zuma is also suing a political cartoonist because of a cartoon of him about to rape a blindfolded lady justice when he was acquitted of rape, a few years ago.

  • Spanish Police Assaults Students, OK With Fascists

A video that shows the over reaction of the Spanish police to students protesting because of education costs, vs. the passivity in dealing with hooligans form the Lazio, an Italian football team with fascistic followers. They even throw people away from a park that is about to be walked by these people, so they can go on without trouble. They brutally hit high school students that dare to defy the govt budget cuts in education.

  • Start Up Chile Applications Are Open

    Guido Permalink
    6:30 am on 07/18/2011

Start Up Chile is a program that incubates start ups with potential, gives them office space, connection to new markets and environments, access to the Chilean VCs and 40K in funding.
I am currently in Chile and this is a huge opportunity, since they fund interesting projects that might have troubles getting more traditional funding.
If you have a cool idea that needs help, try, they fund not only IT, but also biotech and other fields.

Len Sassaman, a cryptographer, activist and biopunk died yesterday, he lost the battle against depression in Leuven, Belgium. He is survived by his widow, Meredith L. Patterson, also a hacker and biopunk. His work and actions inspired me and shaped the world we live in, as he was active during the Crypto Wars and
    designed and wrote anonymizing tools.

He will be missed, but I hope that his
legacy will go on and I am certain he will continue inspiring our efforts.

This brutal videos shows the attack on the Jehova’s Witnesses by right wing groups in Bulgaria. I don’t know anything about the context, but this is shocking. I do not like specially JWs, but I admire that they are pacifist and non-nationalistic.

I’d trade their door knocking for the violence and hate rhetoric of other Christian denominations any day.

  • SUpporters Of Venezuelan Govt Beat Protesters

    Guido Permalink
    12:22 am on 04/02/2011

We are having blackouts again in Venezuela, and activists from an opposition political party were protesting, asking the govt. to solve the issue, when they were confronted and beaten by govt. supporters. This is just another sickening example of the kind of situation that every week happens in Venezuela. So, if you go out and protest for better living conditions, thugs supporting a govt. who claims to improve living conditions will beat you.

Wisconsin is not the only place where the govt. is against unions and violates worker’s rights. In Venezuela union leader Ruben González was sent to jail for organizing a strike in a state company in charge of mining iron ore. González has been charged with “unlawful assembly, incitement, and violating a government security zone”. González is just the latest of several union leaders and worker’s rights advocates thrown in jail for organizing strikes and protests.
