The iconic Detroit ruin formerly known as the Packard plant is set to be demolished starting as early as *next week*. The ruins have been featured on BoingBoing in the past as the decay is rather photogenic. Perhaps some of the most visible example of industrial decay to be found within the city of Detroit is to be torn down. The Packard plant ruins have been featured on BB in the past due to their rather photogenic nature. I’m torn as to whether this is a step toward progress in addressing the blight in the city, or a tragic loss of an icon of a bygone era. Either way, there’s not a whole lot of time remaining for those who have been meaning to document the site, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. The demo work begins as early as next week.

This week one of those opinion shows on Fox News showed footage proported to be of the “violent” protests in Madison, Wisconsin. Their footage included palm tree lined streets. The protesters retaliated yesterday and corrected that particular lie for Fox.

Just heard this on the radio – the supreme court has upheld a lower court ruling upholding Westboro Baptist Church’s first amendment right to harass greiving families at their fallen soldier’s funerals. It’s unclear what impact this ruling will have on future hate speach cases as this case was decided on a civil suit alledging invasion of privacy.
