Alleged internet pirate Kim Dotcom has been granted bail in a surprise court move this morning, after new evidence came to light.

The German millionaire was one of four men to be arrested in Auckland last month on behalf of US authorities who accuse them of internet piracy. The US is seeking Dotcom’s extradition.

The decision was announced this morning.

Dotcom, 38, founded file-sharing site Megaupload and stands accused of breaching copyright laws costing owners more than US$500 million in what US authorities call the “Mega Conspiracy”.

He was arrested last month at the $30m Coatesville mansion he rented, and was previously denied bail because he was considered a flight risk.

The other three men have been bailed.

  • New Zealand Police refuse to evict Occupy Protesters

For the second time New Zealand Police have refused to evict Occupy protesters, first the Dunedin Police refused the call from the Mayor of Dunedin to evict the protesters occupying the Octagon in Dunedin, prompting a pathetic outburst from the mayor where he suggested that he now didn’t know what the police would and would not enforce, leading one of the occupiers to run for Mayor, now Auckland Police have done the same thing, so good to see that our police aren’t in anybodies pockets!
