Social issues are starting to predominate the 2012 Presidential election. What happened to the economy? Apparently, politicians are finding it easier to discuss controlling our access to contraceptives and birth control, than to taxes and controlling the deficit. And when men like Rush Limbaugh start calling women sluts, things are definitely getting out of hand.

The power of money to determine legislation is becoming clear. The Supreme Court has determined that corporations are “people” and can contribute as much money to politicians as they want —without any oversight. Lobbyists ply legislators with money for their support on legislation that benefits corporations best interests, often putting citizens in peril.
What’s the most important motivation in Washington’s political arena? It isn’t altruism or even public service. Love of money is the root of all legislation.

There is a controversy brewing in Leesburg, VA over just what constitutes a “holiday display.” The traditional creches have already been joined this year by a skeleton Santa nailed to a cross and displays put up by atheists. Taking a look at my blog stats the other day I noticed that the most popular post in the last month was a 2006 piece I did on a “before” and “after” photo of my daughter’s teeth (before braces and after). Someone even wrote me to ask if she could include it in a UK dental book! What is the world’s fascination with dental makeovers?
I may break my stat bank next week when that same daughter gets her second set of braces removed. And, yes, I’ve taken a “before” and will take the beautiful results as well.
