When your beloved feline companion passes away, you could have her buried, or cremated, or stuffed. Or you could turn her into a cow-chasing quad-copter!
In Dutch, but the vision is the thing.

The team behind the first successful human-powered ornithopter is building a human-powered helicopter this summer, with the goal of winning the Sikorzky prize.
The Sikorzky prize is given to the first Human-Powered Helicopter to hover for 1 minute, and reach an altitude of 3 meters.
The team has turned to Kickstarter in an effort to raise some of the funds required to build this helicopter.

Kinetic Creatures are mechanical cardboard animals you build from a tab-and-slot kit. They walk with a wire turn-handle or motorized gear-kit, and can be turned into basic robots with Legos, Arduino, or anything that can turn an axle.

Our Walking Sticks are of the species Carausius Morosus, ie. Indian Walking Sticks. Walking sticks are quite easy insects to film because at daytime they either eat (seldom) or they try to act stick as their defense mechanism. Flip of the coin is that to some they might appear boring.
Walking sticks are nocturnal creatures meaning, that they are active and mostly eat at night time.
Our walking sticks are about 10 cm from head to tail and maybe even 15 cm when legs are extented. Most of the walking sticks are female and they lay eggs without needing a male to fertilize the eggs. As a matter of fact male sticks are rare.a

Clinical science is (hopefully) becoming aware of the advantages of restriction-free information sharing: “Open sharing of clinical trial data has been proposed as a way to address the gap between the production of clinical evidence and the decision-making of physicians. A similar gap was addressed in the software industry by their open-source software movement. Here, we examine how the social and technical principles of the movement can guide the growth of an open-source clinical trial community.”

The latest Bytesize Science video features a cool demo of synthetic vocal cords that mimic the vibration of human vocal cords.
Filmed in the lab of MIT Institute Professor Robert Langer, the video explains how these polymer vocal cords may help repair damaged vocal tissue in singers like Julie Andrews and Roger Daltrey. The work could also help the estimated six percent of the U.S. suffering from vocal disorders.
If you decide to post the video, please credit the American Chemical Society. Thanks!

Brian Switek at Wired reports on a rare, nearly-complete Tarbosaurus bataar fossil auctioned off today in New York City by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions. The problem? It was most likely illegally smuggled out of Mongolia, where fossils are considered a national heritage and there exists no legal mechanism to export them.

The 3dstuffmaker 3D printer is the first 3D printer of its size that will allow you to create anything that you can think of!
The3dstuffmaker 3D printer is an open source 3D printer that is affordable compared to others on the market at $745 and can print almost anything up to 100x100x100mm. Theoretically the size of a cupcake.
You can share you print ideas or get new printer ideas from thingiverse.com and the 3dstuffmaker can be purchased directly from http://www.3dstuffmaker.com
3D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier to use than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers offer product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a single build process. Advanced 3D printing technologies yield models that can serve as product prototypes.
There has been large growth in the sale of 3D printers. Additionally, the cost of 3D printers has declined. The technology also finds use in the jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, GIS, civil engineers, etc.
